Star is a growing town in Western Idaho with a population of over 10,000 people and growing. Due to the population growth, it was critical that the existing elementary school be expanded to meet the new requirements. Hutchison Smith Architects were selected to provide a solution.
The approved scheme consisted of a 27,677 s.f. addition which provides 11 classrooms, resource rooms, cafeteria, kitchen, and gymnasium along with restrooms, offices, and conference areas. The new addition created a new entrance while updating the appearance and providing the much needed educational spaces. The project's focus changed from the entrance to the educational spaces which allowed Hutchison Smith Architects to save the District money.
The new addition exceeded the current Energy Code requirements, providing continuous insulation exterior walls incorporating brick and ceramic exterior, no maintenance wall panels for long-lasting exterior beauty. The panel design blends with the residential character of the neighborhood.
